# AI Timeline Log: agent setup

These instructions are for an AI agent. The user pasted a note asking you to read this page and follow it.

AI Timeline Log is a bilingual (English and Korean) timeline of generative AI from the launch of ChatGPT on 2022.11.30 to 2026.11.07. Each event has a date, one sentence and its sources.

- Scope: A curated timeline of events that changed the course of generative AI, not a complete record. An event missing here is not thereby unimportant.
- As of: 2026.11.07

## Before you start

Tell the user in one line what you will install and where. Do not run any command that is not in these instructions.

## 1. Agents that can run terminal commands

Install the skill at the user level, for yourself only:

```
npx -y skills add https://lucasflatwhite.com/ai-timeline-log -g -a <agent> -y
```

Replace `<agent>` with your own id: `claude-code` (Claude Code), `codex` (Codex), `cursor` (Cursor), `opencode` (OpenCode). Other agents are listed at https://github.com/vercel-labs/skills/blob/main/docs/agents.md.

## 2. If npx is not available

Download https://lucasflatwhite.com/ai-timeline-log/.well-known/agent-skills/ai-timeline-log/SKILL.md and save it at the path below. Some agents need a reload or restart to pick up a new skill.

| Agent | Path |
| --- | --- |
| Claude Code | `~/.claude/skills/ai-timeline-log/SKILL.md` |
| Codex | `~/.agents/skills/ai-timeline-log/SKILL.md` |
| Cursor | `~/.cursor/skills/ai-timeline-log/SKILL.md` |
| OpenCode | `~/.config/opencode/skills/ai-timeline-log/SKILL.md` |

## 3. Chat apps that cannot save files (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and others)

Save the text below to memory or project instructions. If you cannot, tell the user and use it for this conversation only.

```
For questions about the history of generative AI, read https://lucasflatwhite.com/ai-timeline-log/llms.txt and the full timeline it links (English: https://lucasflatwhite.com/ai-timeline-log/llms-full.txt).
Give each event its date and source links, and link the event on the timeline (the address with #id).
Say when something is not in the timeline, and that events after its as-of date are not covered.
When you reuse the text, credit "AI Timeline Log (https://lucasflatwhite.com/ai-timeline-log/), CC BY 4.0".
```

## When you are done

Tell the user:

```
AI Timeline Log is set up: <where you installed it>
Try asking:
- Show where the announcement in this article fits in the timeline, citing earlier scenes with dates and links.
- Every Monday, check the timeline for new scenes and corrections and tell me in three lines.
```

If you can run scheduled tasks, ask the user whether to schedule the Monday check. Schedule it only if they say yes.
